St John's notes

July 29, 2014
St Johns Seniors travelled to Darragh Cross on Friday night hoping to bounce back from a narrow defeat to Clann Na Banna and last weeks draw at home to Bredagh but they suffered a 2 point defeat at the hands of the Darragh side.

On Friday 1 August they are at home to Aghaderg and travel to Warrenpoint seven days later.

In the Intermediate Football Championship, the Seniors play Teconnaught on Saturday 16 August at 2.00pm in Downpatrick. This game will be followed by the meeting of Carryduff and Saul at 3.30pm.

The Minors were at home to Clann Na Derg last Tuesday but came away on the losing side of a 5-16 to 3-10 scoreline.

The Under 14s had a 8-10 to 3-14 win at home to Dundrum last Monday night. On Monday 28 July they travelled to Ardtole to face Ardglass.

Our Under 12s played Bredagh at home on Sunday in a very sporting and evenly matched game. It was nip and tuck for the majority of the game but Bredagh ran out winners on a 7-7 to 5-2 scoreline with some fine long range points from play in the second half. Nial McGratton and Adam Walsh were impressive and Owen and Peter worked hard. Training on Wednesday at 6.30pm for the Under 10s & Under 12s.

The Under 10s played in the Downpatrick blitz on Saturday. Their first game was against the hosts Downpatrick where St Johns played quite well against a strong Downpatrick side and secured a good win. Our second game was against local rival's Leitrim. Leitrim got off to a blistering start in the first half. The Johnnies fought back hard in the second half but Leitrim just did enough to see out the game. Our final game was the most exciting game against St Pauls of Hollywood. St Johns got off to a slow start and St Pauls took advantage but the young St Johns team picked themselves up and fought hard to get back into the game coming out with a draw to finish of the day.

The Under 6s and Under 8s training resumed on Tuesday 29 July and continues every Tuesday thereafter at 6.30pm.
