HURLING
CLONDUFF ARE DIV II MINOR HURLING LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2014!
With one game still to play, Clonduff Minor Hurlers (many of them dual players) annexed the Div II League title on Wednesday evening 23rd July, 2014 in Clonduff Park. They suffered just the one defeat all year and are worthy winners. Bring on the Championship! Many thanks to their mentors who so freely give up their time to this group of talented youngsters!
Back row (l-r): David Byrne, Gerard Coughlin, Christopher Lynch, Rhys Ward (capt), Darragh Downey, Charlie Carr, Declan Rooney, Jake Brannigan, Rory Hughes. Front row (l-r): Dean Byrne, Conor Murray, Lorcan Brannigan, Patrick Brannigan, Christopher Hynes.
Well done to Rían Branagan (son of Paddy and Bronagh) who captained the Down U21 Hurling team that reached the Ulster Final (played on Wednesday 23rd July 2014). Unfortunately Down were well beaten by a strong Antrim side. Rían's has had a terrific season at full back but was moved out to midfield during the Final. Rían has another year at this level, plays club Hurling with the Clonduff Senior team and is also an accomplished footballer.

FOOTBALL
RFC - Saul II 1-10 v Clonduff III 3-11
The Thirds travelled to Saul on Sunday evening in the Reserve Football Championship Quarter final
In wet and slippery conditions Clonduff made it tough on themselves by not converting some easy chances but ended up two points to the good at the break. The second half proved to be much better with improved performances throughout, Clonduff ending with a seven point win - final score: Saul 1-10 Clonduff 3-11
Team and scorers: Paul Gribben, Ciarán McGreevy, Jamie Fegan, Niall Crowley, Liam McParlan, Paul McConville, Francis Quinn, Oliver Branagan (0-1), Aaron Sherry (0-1), Marty Farnon (0-2), Darragh Sherry (1-0), Rory Mathews (0-2), Rory McGreevy (1-1), Paddy Mathews (0-1), Eugene Branagan (1-3), Subs used: Stephen Branagan, Ryan McShane, Patrick Gribben, Kevin McShane, Connor Maginn
SFL Saval 2-13 Clonduff 4-12
In this very high-scoring game Clonduff got off to a very slow start and were 1-7 to 0-2 behind after 14 mins but after some positional switches, they recovered and got on level terms before Saval added two points to end the first half on a score of 2-9 Clonduff 3-4. The home side got the first score in the second half but thereafter the game belonged to The Yellas. There was some great high fielding, long kick passes, good tackling and wonderful scores. Clonduff actually moved seven points clear but, as in the first half, Saval got the final two scores of the game. Barry O'Hagan got a hat-trick and Karl O'Hagan got the other goal, but it wasn't just about the goals or the scores - it was the support play, the reading of the game, not losing heart and the desire to win, that has been evident of late, that were the main talking point.
Team and scorers: Gary Haughian, Darren O'Hagan (0-1), Eamon O'Reilly, Kevin Smith, Rory McQuaid, Aidan Carr, Conor Brown, Damien Canning, Mark McPolin, Paul Lively (0-1), Patrick O'Hagan, Liam McGreevy (0-1), Karl O'Hagan (1-5), Jason Brown (0-1), Barry O'Hagan (3-2); Subs used: Shane Ward (0-1), Bernard Branagan, Finbarr McConville, Eamon Grant
FIDDLERS GREEN (ROSTREVOR) U10½ TOURNAMENT
The tournament was played in a league format, 2pts for a win 1 for a draw, teams with most points declared winners or teams on same points go into playoff, and this is exactly what both Clonduff teams succeeded in doing! However, despite excellent play and superb teamwork they were unable to clinch the title but that didn't take away from the brilliant football they played. WELL DONE TO BOTH TEAMS!
The boys that took part were: Patrick Cowan, Shane Close, Shea Morgan, Conor Grant, Eoghan McAlinden, Joey O'Hare, Brian Rice, Conor Quinn, Senan Carr, Finn Brown, Adam Fegan, Max Dursley, Evan McConville, Donnacha Burns, Dan Rafferty, Cormac Kelly, Aidan Kelly

TRIP TO ANTRIM COAST
On the 23rd July a group of adults and children set off on a trip to the Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-rede rope bridge. The weather was divine and made the trip, in the air-conditioned bus much more pleasant. The Giant's Causeway, a first visit for quite a few people was an eye-opening experience. There was time for light refreshments, a wee rest to savour the surroundings, before setting off for the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge. The views on the walk to the rope bridge were spectacular - you could see Rathlin Islands very clearly and the Mull of Kintyre looked within easy reach. On the way home the drive took the group along the very scenic Antrim Coast Road, stopping in Carnlough for a much-needed Ice Cream. On arriving back to Hilltown many of the group, as is the usual custom on such days out, then retired to the Downshire Arms for a bite to eat and refreshments. Many thanks to Marie Milligan for organising the day on behalf of the Social Initiative Group.
