Match Reports

U16 Football An Riocht v Ballyholland
The U16 footballers produced another marvellous and unexpected result on Thursday with a 3-7 to 0-5 win over visiting league leaders Ballyholland Harps.
Thomas Sloan with three fantastic saves, including a full length diving penalty save; Michael Harper and Shane Cunningham covering along the back line like veterans; Liam Rodgers a dominating force at centre half; Conor Clarke majestic as ever at centre field; and Jack Rafferty unerring from free kicks claimed the plaudits but this was a real team effort. Paul Kearney and Ronan Campbell worked tirelessly up and down the pitch from wing back; Dane Matthews and Marc Rooney put in some telling tackles in the middle third; while the lighter boys like Eoin Sloan, Blaine Rooney, Paddy McComiskey and Caomhan Campbell showed their worth with thoroughly committed displays.
Conor Clarke opened the scoring with a huge point from play before Jack Rafferty punished rash tackling with two close in frees. Ballyholland were coming more into it however and were awarded a penalty after some twelve minutes but Thomas Sloan was down to his right to push the spot kick around the post. Moments later Thomas saved again to keep Harps out and in a breakaway attack Conor Clarke soloed all of fifty yards riding tackles before firing to the roof of the net for a six nil lead. With twenty five minutes on the clock the visitors got their first point but Jack Rafferty's third free left An Riocht ahead 1-4 to 0-1 at the break.
Harps went for goals on the restart but found the home defence in determined mood with some great tackling and blocking depriving them of scores and Jack Rafferty added his fourth free at the other end. However by the fortieth minute Ballyholland had put two scores back to back and it looked ominous for a tiring An Riocht side. Then between the forty fifth and fiftieth minutes Jack Rafferty pointed from a free and from play and the visitor's resistance was broken, five minutes from time they added their fifth point and forced another fine save from Thomas but again An Riocht transferred the ball quickly up the pitch and Caomhan Campbell came in at the far post to bundle the ball over the line and in added time Ronan Campbell's shot from distance crept in just under the crossbar for our third goal and a hard fought but thoroughly deserved win.
Team: Thomas Sloan, Michael Harper, Shane Cunningham, Paul Kearney, Liam Rodgers, Ronan Campbell 1-0, Conor Clarke 1-1, Marc Rooney, Paddy McComiskey, Dane Mathews, Eoin Sloan, Blaine Rooney, Jack Raffertty 0-6 (5f). Sub: Caomhan Campbell 1-0.

U18 Football Kilcoo v An Riocht
The Minor Footballers won in Kilcoo 8-13 to 3-5. At half time only two points separated the teams, 2-6 to 2-4, but An Riocht pulled away in the second half.
