Former Down forward Ronan Murtagh suffered serious facial injuries in last Sunday's controversial Down Division 1 football clash between Ballyholland and Downpatrick, which was overshadowed by a shocking late brawl.

In what was his last game for the Ballyholland seniors, Murtagh suffered a fractured cheekbone, jaw and eye socket following an accidential clash with a team-mate in the early stages of the game. According to the Irish News, the 2010 All-Ireland SFC finalist was due to be released from Dundonald Hospital yesterday.

The game was marred by a mass brawl which spilled out of the pitch and into the carpark following an altercation between two spectators, having been rescheduled after the original tie was abandoned after a player was allegedly kicked in the head.

There are fifteen county finals taking place this weekend with ten of those in football. Join our match tracker on Sunday afternoon for live updates from around the county grounds.
