At the u12 Camogie An Riocht beat Drumaness 7-3 to 6-1.

In the Reserve League Final An Riocht v Mayobridge, we lost by seven, 2-8 to 1-18. The score line flatters the Bridge for with five minutes remaining the sides were level and we had played thirty minutes a man short. Conor Cole opened the scoring from a free and added a second, but a Bridge penalty goal moved them 1-2 to 0-2 clear. Michael Harper pulled one back, but the Bridge finished the half on a high with four unanswered points to lead 1-6 to 0-3 at the break. Michael Harper sent in an exquisite pass to Conor Sloan who blasted to the net and then added two frees with Harper floating over a point from play. The Bridge led by a goal when Brian Sloan flicked the ball on to Michael Harper who bundled it over the line to draw the match, 2-7 to 1-10 and they were level again five minutes from time before the Bridge pulled clear to win. Brendan Allen made a couple of decent saves in goals, Brian Rodgers tried his heart out in defence, Brian Sloan was always available for kickouts and upfront Conor Sloan and Michael Harper carried most threat. The teams meet again in the Felix Darby Cup Final later in the month.

In the u12 Gaelic Atticall beat An Riocht 9-18 to 0-5.

In the Senior Camogie Championship Quarter Final at Downpatrick, An Riocht beat Ballycran 3-8 to 1-10. Former County Senior champions in 1980, 81, 82 & 83, this was our first win in a Senior Championship match in over 30 years and richly deserved for all the work that has taken place, on and off the pitch, these past few years by players and officials. The win which saw us overturn a 23-point aggregate deficit from our two league meetings with Ballycran will surely boost self-belief within this talented group and with a month to put in place the necessary improvements, we can contest the semi-final v Portaferry or Ballela on 5th September.

On Sunday we played against a stiff breeze in the first half and took a while to settle before opening the scoring with the first of 3 Aine Fearon frees as we went three nil clear by the seventeenth minute. At the back we battled bravely to crowd out the Ballycran attackers, putting in some great tackles and as our confidence grew the quality of ball coming out of defence improved immensely and we should have had more scores. Eventually Ballycran came more into it and in the nineteenth minute Catherine McGourty got them onto the scoreboard from a free, she added a forty-five minutes later and tied the game with the first score from play in the twentieth minute. An Riocht kept their composure and a cross from Aoife McDowell was batted to the net by Colleen Fearon to give An Riocht a real fillip. Almost single-handed Catherine McGourty kept Ballycran in it pointing her fourth score and when An Riocht spurned several chances, the favourites seized the initiative and finished strongly with three unanswered points for a slender one point advantage going in at the break, 0-7 to 1-3.

An Riocht were very much on the front foot on the restart and launched several unsuccessful attacks before in the thirty-eighth minute Colleen Fearon rounded the keeper but was wrestled to the ground and Aine converted the resultant penalty to the net and then added her fourth point eight minutes later. With An Riocht failing to show their superiority on the scoreboard, Ballycran still posed a threat and made it a two point margin with a fifty-third minute free. Then two minutes later Colleen Fearon took a Carrie Killen pass and fired low to the net and from the puck out Aoife McDowell returned the ball over the bar to put six between the teams. Catherine McGourty then shot home a fine solo goal to set up an exciting finish but Aine Fearon replied with two points, a free and a sixty yarder from play before in added time Carrie Killen tagged on the insurance score. Ballycran converted a sixty-seventh minute free but An Riocht held out for a deserved victory.
