Aughlisnafin club notes

June 18, 2018

*Baile and Locha minors recorded a very good win at home to RGU Downpatrick last Tuesday evening. RGU took an early 0-3 to 0-2 lead before a three goal salvo helped the Loch to a 3-4 to 0-6 half time lead. The Loch outscored the visitors 4-9 to 0-6 in a superb 2nd half to win. Final score Ballylough 7-13 RGU 0-12. The win lifts them up to third place in the league standings with a tough game away to Bryansford next.

*Our seniors lost a second game on the bounce last Friday night away to Aghaderg. The Fin had no game since the Teconnaught game while Aghaderg played two games in the same period and it was they that profited most as a result. The first half was evenly matched with the Banbridge side leading 2-08 to 1-10 at the interval but the reds lost their midfielder to a second yellow card just before the short whistle. In the second half it was Aghaderg who took the game to the 'Fin though with the numerical disadvantage making no difference to their game plan which saw them outscore the Fin 3-08 to 1-05 to win the game. The Fin also lost a player to a second yellow in the second half. Final score Aghaderg 5-16 Aughlisnafin 2-15. A disappointing result but that's football for you. Match ball sponsor for the game was The Townhouse Bar. Thanks for the support. Next game is at home to St Michaels.

*Our U14's kept up their impressive winning run with another brilliant win away to Ardglass. After a closely contested first half the 'Fin pushed on in the second period to win the match. Team: O Maguire, K McComiskey, C McCann, J Steen, R Tweedie (0-1), N Dornan (0-1), M Quinn (6-12), C Walsh (0-5), D Pickering (0-1), M Flanagan, C O'Hare (2-2) Subs: J King, A Quinn, C McDonald, R McCann

*Well done to Marc Quinn and Ethan Murray who both played for the Down ETS U14 footballers last Saturday in Saval with a win against Meath. But it was not without consequence as Marc suffered a broken wrist which will see him out of action for a while. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch sooner rather than later.

*Also well done to our minor goalkeeper and U16 forward Morgan Croskery who was involved in the Down ETS U16 footballers win away to Monaghan also at the weekend.

*Our U12's game against Bright was not played due to no match referee which was extremely disappointing for both sets of players and management. The game will be re-fixed for another date.

*Our Year 6's will attend the East Down Super Blitz this Saturday in Bryansford. Good luck to the players and management. Our Year 4s will not be in action this weekend.

*Our U16's are back in league action this week with a home fixture against Castlewellan.

*The Kellogs Cúl Camp will be held at Pairc Baile Anna Monday 16th to Friday 20th July. It can now been booked online. The Nursery Camp must be booked direct with the club. See our club website of social media for details.

*Our annual 'Fin Fun Mud Run' event was held at the weekend and was a massive success with attendance the highest recorded to date for the event which ran over two days this year. The feedback was extremely positive and the organising committee headed by our chairperson Ben Willoughby, our secretary Sheena Murray along with our course director Rory Murphy and his team of willing volunteers made the event the success it was. We thank all our sponsors and all our volunteers, not just club members, but parents of our underage players and their extended family, too many to mention, for their help. We could not have done it without that help. Last but not least thanks to the public for attending the event. It gives us a great sense of pride that while have limited resources as a club that is trying to survive, that we can put on an event that can cater for the number of entrants that took part. Tada gan iarracht - nothing without effort. Full coverage on the event on our social media platforms and in the print media. We will be back in June 2019 for Fin Fun Mud Run 5, all being well.

*Good luck to our two underage members Claire and Genevieve Lenaghan who will attend the Irish Nationals at the Citywest in Dublin this weekend along with their fellow Irish dancers from Brennan Miskelly McCormick school.
