Gearoid Adams says CJ McGourty's absence from the Antrim football fold is good news for Down.

The Down coach knows what the St. Gall's forward is capable of from his time as joint-manager of the Saffrons and is glad the Mourne County defence won't have to face him.

"CJ is a scoring forward," Adams told the Irish News ahead of Saturday week's Ulster SFC quarter-final between the neighbouring counties.

"I thought he was excellent for us last year and I've nothing but positive comments to say about him. He did a lot of scoring, hit a lot of excellent frees. If you look back at that Donegal game last year, particularly in the first half, his frees were top drawer and he applied himself for Frank [Fitzsimons] and me.

"Whether CJ starts or not in games, he's going to score. There isn't a match that I've watched where CJ hasn't scored or has come on and scored. So it negates one of Antrim's scoring threats."
