Aughlisnafin club notes

November 20, 2017

*Our U13's put in their best performance of the season to defeat Dundrum in a high scoring thriller which was end to end football throughout. Both teams served up a combined haul of 21 goals and 31 points. Marc Quinn bagged a tremendous 8-05 from midfield to cap a week which saw him called up to the St Malachy's High Schools Rannafast squad. Joining Marc on the scoresheet were Conor Walsh (2-02), Ethan Murray (4-00), Marty Og Flanagan (2-01), Dualta Pickering (1-03), Niall Dornan (1-00), Reece Tweedie (0-02) and Anthony Quinn (0-01). Also contributing to the victory were goalkeeper Odhran Maguire, defenders Kevin McComiskey & Calum Lyttle and substitutes Connor McDonald and Ryan McCann. Despite only losing once in their six championship games they missed out on next Sundays final against St John's with Darragh Cross winning the head to head with the Fin on match day five. It has been a tremendous effort from all the players, coaches and parents to ensure our small but talented panel fulfilled every fixture and competed well. We were unfortunate with injuries in key games but that's football. Best wishes to Jamie King who is still recovering from a broken finger.

That concludes all underage football for the season. We will be back in the new year with teams at every grade for only the second season in our recent history and we will have our senior men's team back which will be a tremendous boost for the club as a whole.

*Comiserations to the St Malachy's High School Rannafast squad who lost by the minimum to St Patricks Grammar School last Monday. Our club players Shea Croskery, Morgan Croskery and Peter O'Hare all featured in the match while Marc Quinn was upgraded from the Loch an Iuir squad as part of the match day panel.

*We also had players involved in MacCrory Cup action. Eoin Lundy and Oran Flanagan both featured in a narrow two point reversal against group winners St Ronans, Lurgan. St Malachy's will now progress to the play offs for the right to remain in the competition. Great experience for the local high school and indeed our club players aswell.

*The club would like to thank all the clubs and gaels in Down and further afield and indeed those not affiliated with the GAA for all the messages of support and more importantly their votes in trying to help our coaching officer Gerard Lenaghan win the Translink sponsored Ulster GAA Coach of the Year award. We especially thank the East Down Board and Down GAA County Board for their rallying call and help with promoting our county nominee. The voting ended at midnight on Sunday past and the result will be announced this Sunday coming. Its now just a case of wait and see !!

*The club are working towards achieving the Club Maith Bronze Award accreditation and have been accepted on to a pilot scheme run by Ulster GAA in conjunction with Sport NI. This objective meets yet another milestone in the club's five year development plan which was launched back in 2015.

*Lotto last week numbers were 2, 22, 24, 26. No winners. This weeks numbers were 1, 19, 20, 24. No winners. Jackpot £3,000.
