In front of a packed hall in Glasdrumman AOH on Saturday afternoon , the pick of talent from Clubs in South Down gathered for the second of the opening heats of Scór na nÓg 2018. Clubs represented were Attical , Ballela, Clonduff , Glasdrumman, Longstone , Mayobridge and Saval. The standard of competition in all caregories was very high,with the age range of competitors going from the very young right up to the teenagers. All the competitors were a credit to their families, Clubs and mentors. Glasadrumman were represented in two categories: Ballad Group comprising of Aoife Grant, Clodagh Morgan , Tara Grant, Niamh McDowell and Ciara Rooney , and Instrumental music with Aoife Leckey, Cara Sloan , Dana Leckey, Niamh McDowell and Peter Doran. Both groups put on a excellent performances for the opening round and were rewarded with winning their respective categories on the day and are now through to the South Down Final this Sunday 19th November in St. Mark's High School, Warrenpoint at 4.00 p.m. We appreciate the great turnout of support for the young people on Saturday afternnon. Our thanks to the AOH for the use of the hall and to Paddy Brennan for his hard work in making sure the hall was layed out well for the competitions. Cathaoirleach Coiste Scór Dheisceart An Duin PJ Quinn welcomed County Cultural Officer William James Smith , Coiste Scór Naisiunta member Paula Magee and other South Down officers to the hall. he thanked Glasdrumman for hosting the event , Tony Bannon from the Club for being Fear an Tí on the day and our adjudicators for all their hard work. He thanked all the clubs , parents a, mentrs and competitors for ensuring Scór na nÓg is a a vibrant example of th expression our Culture and language through song dancde, music , recitaiton and historic representation. He urged that All clubs in South Down give the same commitment and level of support to the upcoming Scór Sinseair in the New Year. He then invited Glasdrumman's All Ireland Champion Niamh McDowell to the stage to give another pulsating rendition of her winning song "John Condon". At hte end everyone was on their feet to give this champion a worthy ovation. It's from these stages of the competions that the journey to All Ireland glory begins.
