BORD NA nÓG: Well done to the U16 Div2 squad who overcame a strong St.Micheals team on Sunday evening in the Northern League final held in Convoy. They won by 1-12 to 0-12. St Eunans fought back from being 2pts down at half time to secure the cup courtesy of a goal by Conor Harley which proved the vital score in what was an excellent game of football. There were good performances from Mark McGuire at full forward, Caolan Flood in the left corner and Callum Keaveney on the wing. In defence Mark Ford, Sean McBride and John Gibbons got a solid grip of on the St Michaels attack. There was also a good midfield performance from captain John Cavanagh who rallied his team on to victory. Overall it was a great team effort against a very good St.Micheals team who never gave up. This was a tough, exciting and hard fought match which saw Downings lead by 5 points at half time. Fanad came out in determined mood in the second half and showed great skill to claw back the lead and withstand a late challenge by Downings to record a fine 2 point victory. This was an excellent team performance and was a credit to all involved. The team play their last home game v Glenswilly at Portsalon on Friday 23rd at 7.30 and it would be great to see all parents out to support. A win here would see them qualify for a Northern final. Hard luck to the Minors who lost out to Letterkenny Gaels on Monday eve, this was first defeat of the season for them, hopefully they will bounce back to winning ways. Naomh Brid On Friday evening the Minors put up a very good performance in the Divisional Final against Naomh Ultan with the Final score reading 1-08 apiece. With Naomh Brid s defence showing well and the midfield pairing winning lots of ball in poor conditions the signs are good for the replay and further progression in the Championship. Keep up the good work Pauric, Michael and all the lads. 'At the weekend the Seniors recorded another victory at home to Downing s. 'In a game that was played before the Reserve game this week due to the County bonding trip the boys showed well in every sector of the field and were a match for their counterparts in every position. This showed in the end when Downing s resorted to long balls in on top of the Naomh Brid defence in an attempt to get back on terms with the lads. However with both Dermot Curristan, Donal Martin and Clint Walsh strong under the high and breaking ball, Downing s could find no way through. 'In the Reserve match which was played after the Senior game the lads put in a fighting performance and were unlucky in the end to lose by 8pts, with a couple of sloppy goals proving to be the difference. Good performers for the reserves were Aidan Walsh & Gareth Mc Murray in attack and Gary Mc Caffery in defence. 'Thanks to the supporters who turned out in large numbers to cheer on both teams. 'Both teams are playing this Weekend against Mc Cumhaills at home, actual day of game to be confirmed. Please see fixtures section of paper for information. 'Training for the Senior & Reserve Panels is on Tuesdays & Thursday at the pitch, all players are asked to be on the field and ready to train at 7:30pm sharp. With the championship match against St. Nauls coming up in a few weeks, the management team would ask for an increase in commitment to training form both panels in the coming weeks. 'Any player who wishes to play with the club for the assault on Division 2 and the Intermediate Championship would be very welcome indeed and should contact either Pauric Molloy on 087 6417464 or Michael Quinn on 087 2921306. 'A meeting will take place this Friday evening in the Clubhouse with regard to renewed fundraising efforts and all club members are asked to attend. 'The Committee would remind that renewal of membership is due priced at a very reasonable 20 euro for the annual membership to support your local GAA club, this can be paid to any committee member. 'Anyone interested in receiving training in the use of the newly purchased dephipilators should give their name to any club committee member. 'Club lotto results and other info is available on www.naomhbrid.net Gleann tSuili The seniors bowed out of this year's championship after a disappointing defeat by St. Eunans in Convoy on Saturday evening last. Starting the second-half only 3 points down and with the advantage of the slight breeze, the Glen supporters expected to see a real challenge from their team in the second-half but unfortunately this did not materialise and Eunans ran out comfortable winners with a scoreline of 2-08 to 1-05. It's back to league action this week-end with a home game against Four Masters. Please check the fixtures page of this paper for confirmation and throw-in times for both games. The Under 16s played Red Hughs in the Shield Semi-Final in Foxhall on Friday evening last in what turned out to be a very competitive game. The final score read Glenswilly 7-06 Red Hughs 6-06. The team performed very well and came home with a good win, their next outing is at home to Four Masters next Tuesday, 27th May. We hope to play two games to ensure a game for the whole panel. The first game should throw in at 6.30pm and the second at 7pm. It would be great to see parents and family out to support the girls. The under 14s get their season off the ground this Tuesday, 20th May, with an away fixture to Naomh Br??d. Good luck to everyone involved there. A big congrats to Tara Khan and Dearbhaile Mc Neill who travelled to county Down with the county under 16 team last Friday night and came home as Ulster champions. They will face Kerry in the All-Ireland quarter final on Saturday July 12th. Training for the ladies intermediate team will be in the park on Saturday evenings. Players should be on the field for 7pm. ~ BORD NA N?ìG ~ Commiserations to Creevy National School on losing the Cumann na mBunscoil final last Saturday, going down by two late points in the end. Well done though on reaching the final for the second year in succession. The under 8s have game against Saint Naul's this Saturday, 24th May at 11pm. The bus to Mountcharles leaves from the park at 10.30am sharp. Whether the normal under 10 training takes place on Saturday in the Park at 11am will be dictated by the availability or otherwise of coaches. More information nearer the time, anyone able to help out should contact Colman. There is training for under 10s only in Father Tierney Park on Wednesday nights from 7pm to 8pm. The next under 10 blitz will be in Bundoran on Saturday May 31th. The under 12s were obliterated by Killybegs last Friday, losing by 10-9 to 1-1. The lads started well, but heads dropped after Aodh Ruadh conceded an own goal. Matthew Maguire was the only player who really continued to give his all throughout the game. There was a better result on Monday night when Ballyshannon beat Four Masters in Father Tierney park by 1-8 to five points. Kevin Warnock made the move from netminder to full forward and was rewarded with a goal and a point. Philip Patton joint top-scored with four points, three from frees. The remaining scores were chipped in by Stephen Thompson, Shane McGrath and Colm Kelly. Aodh Ruadh did the main damage in the first half and went in 1-5 to 0-2 up at the break. The Willie Rogers tournament takes place this Saturday at Father Tierney Park. The first game starts at 11pm with Aodh Ruadh taking on Melvin Gaels. Also participating will be Bundoran and Erne Gaels. Aodh Ruadh players are asked to bring a loaf of sandwiches for the lunch-time refreshments. Anyone who wants to lend a hand is more than welcome along to what promises to be a superb day of football. There is training for the under 12s this Thursday at 6pm in the De La Salle field. The under 14s are training in the Lakeside on Wednesdays at 6.30pm and Saturdays at 11am. The under 16s secured a 2-6 to 4-9 first leg away win over Saint Naul's last Friday. The scoreline is deceptive enough. Mountcharles were only a point down with a minute to half time when Pauric Patton pounced for a goal and Aodh Ruadh added another quickfire point to go in five points to the good at the break. Pauric Patton had a great game at wing half forward as did Stephen Clarke. Martin Larkin had a fine game and capped it with a well-taken goal. Once again Ronan Drummond gave a masterful display in the backs. The next engagement for the under 16s will be at home against Saint Naul's on Friday, 23th May, at 7.30pm. They will be attempting to seal their progress through to the second round of the championship with a second victory over Saint Naul's. A good show of Ballyshannon support would be greatly appreciated. There is under 16 training at 8pm on Thursday in the Lakeside. Congratulations to Ronan Drummond and Peter Boyle who have made the county Under 16 team.¬? Both recently played in Monaghan in a preliminary round of the Buncrana Cup. Donegal were in a pool with Armagh, Antrim and Monaghan. They came through having won all their games and are now through to the semi-final stages of the competition. Minor training continues with the seniors at the Lakeside on Tuesdays between 7pm to 8.30pm and Thursdays in the De La Salle field from 7pm to 8.30pm. ~ LOTTO ~ There was no winner of the Eu12,800 Aodh Ruadh Lotto jackpot. Naomh Pádraig The numbers drawn in this weeks lotto draw were 1, 3, 2, 4, 7, 5 and 6. There was no jackpot winner however the ?100 runner-up prize went to Eamonn Bradley, Caravan Park Quigley's Point. Next weeks jackpot will be ?950. Both the Seniors and the Reserves got back to winning ways at the weekend with 2 good victories against Lifford. The Seniors got off to the best possible start when the lively Mark Duffy rifled the ball to the bottom corner of the net after a few minutes. Both sides then traded points however another fluent Naomh Pádraig move ended with ball in the net once more, this time the scorer was the impressive Gerard McColgan. The visitors tried hard to get back into the game, adding another couple of points however a third Naomh Pádraig goal from Damian Diver gave the home side a comfortable 3-03 to 0-04 lead at half-time. Naomh Pádraig were slow out of the blocks in the second half however some wayward shooting by the visitors ensured the gap stayed the same. A fourth Naomh Pádraig goal from a Diver penalty ended the game as a contest and meant the home side eventually ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 4-10 to 0-08. There were impressive performances all over the field especially from Barry McColgan, Mark Duffy and Gerard McColgan. A word of mention also to Damian Diver who notched up 2-04 in his last game for the club before he heads of to America for the Summer. The Reserves started the evening off with a fine 1-07 to 1-05 victory against the same opposition with the goal coming from Ryan McColgan. There were impressive displays from Sean Harkin, Mark Wallace, Thomas McLaughlin and the returning Mickey McColgan however Man of the Match went to Kevin Wallace at half-forward. This weekend the Seniors play host to Naomh Colmcille, details to be given out at training. Naomh Padraig ladies lost to Robert Emmett's at the weekend. The ladies started poorly, conceding 1-05 within 4 minutes of the start. The remainder of the first half didn't improve, finishing 2-09 to 0-00 at half time. However, an early goal by Siobhan McDaid kick started the girls into action as the team clawed their way back into the game and displaying much better commitment than had been shown in the first half. Unfortunately, Robert Emmett's had established a lead by half time that the girls were unable to catch, despite outscoring their rivals by 10 points in the second half. Good performances by Siobhan McDaid, Aisling McCallion, Rosie McColgan and Dara McDaid. The second half performance showed what the team can do when they apply themselves - a lesson to be learnt for future games. Training in the club continues as normal. The Ladies train on Wednesday's at 7pm and Saturday's at 11am while the underage girls train on Thursday's at 6.30pm. Meanwhile boys U14 training also takes place on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm and the U12's now train on Monday evenings. The annual fee for the pitchside advertising signs is now due. Anyone seeking to have their sign re-erected is asked to contact a committee member asap. Donegal will take on Derry in McCumhaill Park Ballybofey on 1st June in the first round of the Ulster Championship. This game will be an all ticket affair. Anyone seeking tickets is asked to have their orders in to the club before the weekend to avoid disappointment. As with previous years, priority will be given to club members. There are a couple of important events to take note off that are coming up within the club over the summer months. The Sports Day will return again this year after being introduced last year as part of Neal Toye's successful mayoral campaign. The action takes place on Sunday 6th July and will include all the usual events and more. There will be a meeting to organise and discuss the Sports Day in the clubhouse at 9pm on Friday 13th June. Anyone with any ideas is asked to come along. Secondly, the annual Summer Camp will also be taking place this summer. This is open to all Boys and Girls aged between 7 and 13 and is a great opportunity to enjoy Gaelic, Hurling and many other games. As always, keep an eye on the notes for further details on these events over the coming weeks. And as usual, you can receive these weekly notes via email by emailing [email protected]. Alternatively, text your mobile number to 0863919445 to get free text alerts on upcoming events within the club. Finally the club website is now up and running. Log onto www.naomhpadraig.com to keep up to date with all club activities or onto www.bebo.com/NaomhPadraigAbu for our Bebo page. St. Nauls SENIORS / RESERVES Both teams had good wins at home to Malin on Saturday evening last with the unusual situation of the seniors playing first. Playing first seemed to suit them as they ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2 - 10 to 3 points. The reserves had a more competitive outing, shading their tie by a single point 3 - 7 to 1 - 12. Both teams have a rest period now, resuming with home games against Fanad Gaels on the weekend of 14th/15th June. SLOTTO No results at time of writing. Next weekend's jackpot will be 580 euro. It was a closely fought game until the last five minutes when Lifford scored two quick goals after St. Nauls had what appeared to be a good goal disallowed. The team was : Lisa Henry; Connie McGroarty, Alisha McBrearty, Siobhan McDyre; Geraldine Sheerin, Allison McGready, Orla McGettigan; Sharon McIntyre (0-2) Laura Kenny (0-1); Donna Kelly, Kelly Meehan, Annaleigh Breslin; Caoimhe Maguire (0-2) Sofie Gallagher (1-0) Jody McInaw (0-2).
