Donegal manager Rory Gallagher has played down the comparisons between the start of Jimmy McGuinness' era in 2011 and the current crop of youngsters coming through the ranks.

There have been comparisons made between the two groups as this year has seen a major transition in the squad with a number of youngsters drafted in.

Following a decent league campaign, there is reason to be hopeful that Donegal can be challengers for the Ulster title this year.

On Sunday, they take on Antrim in Ballybofey and Gallagher is just looking for the new charges to make a name for themselves.

"We have had a reasonably successful league campaign from the point of view of producing good performances, didn't win all the games," Gallagher told the Donegal Democrat.

"But the performance level was reasonably good and this is a totally different Donegal climate in the county that there was in 2011.

"There is a confidence with the younger fellas, there has been reasonable success and there is a winning menatlity and that wasn't there in 2011."

He added: "It is a new team and there is going to be a lot of championship debutants."
