GAA President Aogan O Fearghail's comments that the national anthem and flag may be dropped at GAA games have been met with disdain by delegates in Donegal.

O Fearghail's comments were made at the end of the All-Star tour in Abu Dhabi as he claimed a change may be needed post-Brexit.

His remarks were met with confusion, particularly in Donegal where Naomh Ultan official Terence McGinley asked whether the GAA President knew more that the British Prime Minister.

"Teresa May doesn't know what Brexit will bring; how does Aogan O Fearghail know?," McGinley asked the Donegal executive.

"I don't know where we are going or what's going on. We now have all this inclusiveness; we can't go against anybody. They are trying to do away with the ethos of the GAA and why it was formed.

"I think he is jumping the gun and I would be totally against him coming out and speaking on this and I would definitely be against dropping the anthem."

Donegal chairman Sean Dunnion admitted that the comments were premature but added that it was way too early to be discussing such a notion.
