Burt were crowned Donegal intermediate football champions for the first time in their history by accounting for Milford after extra-time today, but the celebrations are likely to be put on hold until after tomorrow's Ulster club clash with Bredagh of Down.

A request by the Donegal county board to have that game put back until next Sunday was turned down by the Ulster Council on Thursday as Bredagh have players involved in an Ulster hurling fixture on the same day.

It means Burt will have to play 140 minutes-plus of championship football in 24 hours, which is some schedule by any standards.

After finishing level last weekend, Burt and Milford replayed their county final at O'Donnell Park, Letterkenny this afternoon. Ronan McLaughlin's side led 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time, but a Pauric Curley goal helped Milford to a 1-11 to 1-8 lead before Conor Harkin's injury-time penalty forced extra-time on a 2-8 to 1-11 scoreline.

Burt finally got on top in extra-time to prevail on a 2-11 to 1-12 scoreline. Ahead of tomorrow's game which has a 2pm throw-in, they will take hope from Cloughaneely's achievement in beating Castledawson of Derry the day after they won the Donegal IFC title two years ago.
