Letterkenny Gaels completed the double with a four point win over neighbours Naomh Colmcille in Newtown on Saturday evening. A result that puts them in a challenging position in Division 3. The home side opened brightly with points from Ryan Mc Erlean and a Joe Donaghy free that put them on the front foot in the opening 5 minutes . It took the visitors 10 minutes to register their first score courtesy of half forward Sean McDonagh and Conor mc Brearty added a free moments later. Former soccer starlet Lee Toland added two scores for the Newtown boys before Conor McBrearty rattled the net after a great Cormac Cannon run from deep in the opposite half of the field. McBrearty added two more scores before half time to leave the home side trailing by two points. Half Time Score Naomh Colmcille 0.5 Gaels 1.4.
The home team were first to strike in the opening minute of the second half before McBrearty responded with a point for the Gaels. The visitors again hit the net in the 7th minute through Cormac Cannon but the Newtown boys hit back immediately from the kick out as corner forward Conor Grant finished to the net. The Naomh Colmcille midfielders added points to level matters before Gaels substitute John Doran goaled for Gaels and soon after keeper Shane Graham was called upon to point a 50 to put the visitors four up. Joe Donaghy pointed a free for the home team and Paddy Doherty responded for Gaels on 52 minutes. Lee Toland kicked another fine score on 29 minutes but the excellent Cormac Cannon pointed for the visitors for the insurance score to leave them four points up. Two Gaels players were shown red cards late on in what was overall a competitive match played in good spirit.
