Down, Mayo and Meath have made winning starts to their Allianz League Division 2B campaigns.

Goals in either half from Danny Toner and Conor Woods helped Down to a thrilling 2-16 to 2-14 victory over neighbours Armagh at the Athletic Grounds. Conor Corvan netted late on for the hosts, but the Ardsmen held on.

A dominant first half performance laid the foundations for Mayo's 1-14 to 0-13 win over Donegal at Elvery's MacHale Park. Mayo, who had dual star Keith Higgins leading their attack, led by 0-10 to 0-3 at the break.

In Arklow, Joey Kenna's seven points helped Meath to a 0-22 to 0-13 triumph over Wicklow.

The Royals, who included former Tipperary player Timmy Hammersley in their line-up, led by 0-12 to 0-7 at half-time after playing against the wind. Hammersley marked his debut with 0-3, while Adam Gannon chipped in with 0-2.

Next Sunday will see Meath at home to Mayo, Down hosting Wicklow and Donegal entertaining Armagh.
