Mark McHugh believes that his Donegal team mate Paddy McBrearty can be one of the leading lights in this year's international rules clash against Australia.

McBrearty tasted international action two years ago where he performed well and McHugh is confident that the Kilcar clubman can improve on that further.

Ireland play Australia at Croke Park on Saturday week and McBrearty is the only Donegal player in the squad.

Speaking to the Donegal Democrat, McHugh feels that his club colleague can play a big part in the outcome of this year's series.

"I'm really delighted for Patrick," said McHugh. "He has put in a huge effort over the last couple of months and it is a great achievement and a great honour for him, for the club and the county.

"I went up to Cavan to watch him two years ago in the Test game against Australia and he played very well and had a really good game.

"I hope it goes well for him this time too and it will be a great experience for him playing with quality players."
