Donegal will bounce back next year, according to captain Michael Murphy, who has set his sights on retaining the Anglo Celt Cup.

Donegal finished second best to Mayo in Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final and Murphy outlined to The Irish Daily Star: "It's back to the drawing board and we'll keep battling on and keep the flag flying.

"It's still there to be challenged for and we will go back and challenge for it (Ulster title) again next year, without a shadow of a doubt.

"It's one that we value and, whatever road you might take to get over the line, you are going to always take it.

"We came up short this year in the Ulster final and came up short in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

"We didn't plan on that to happen when we came down here, that's what happens. I suppose the goal before half-time was a sucker punch, we were playing rightly up until that and we were motoring.

"We were really looking forward to the test against Mayo, things were going OK, but those goals either side of half-time really knocked the stuffing out of us. Credit to Mayo, they pushed on."
