James Horan was impressed with what he witnessed from his former Mayo charges in Croke Park on Saturday evening.

The Connacht champions put Donegal to the sword on a scoreline of 2-13 and 0-11 to set up a semi-final date with Dublin.

"To me, it looks as if this bunch of Mayo players are just getting better and better," he writes in today's Irish Daily Star.

"Kevin McLoughlin, Aidan O'Shea and Diarmuid O'Connor in particular are constantly improving.

"Look at Jason Doherty, a player who never gets the credit he deserves. On Saturday, he scored 0-3 from play and his work-rate is phenomenal.

"In game after game, Jason puts in a huge amount of tackles, chases down opponents and then contributes plenty in attack too.

"Mayo's tackling was a feature of the game and they were looking for them.

"In contrast, Donegal looked as if they were trying to avoid making tackles.

"They couldn't match Mayo in any department."
