Donegal defender Karl Lacey is a major doubt for the county's All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Galway on Saturday week.
Having been forced off with a knee injury during the Ulster SFC final defeat to Monaghan last Sunday, Lacey was due to have a scan this week.
The initial prognosis suggested was that it could be a long term injury, something that Donegal manager Rory Gallagher confirmed to the Donegal Democrat.
"The feeling is, that while the injury is not too serious, it is thought to be a long term problem," stated Gallagher.
"But that feeling at this stage is that it looks touch and go if he will be fit for the Galway game. But we won't know for definite until we have the results of the scan so we are keeping our fingers crossed that he will be ready for the game.
"He suffered a blow to the knee early in the game and it was very sore at half time. But we decided that he would give it a go in the second half. However, there was no improvement after a few minutes, we had to take him off."
