St. Eunan's GAA Club Golf Classic

May 25, 2015

With forty seven teams taking part, the St. Eunan's GAA Club Golf Classic once again proved to be one of the premier competitions on the annual golfing calendar. With the sunshine, light breeze and the Barnhill course in pristine condition,  the scores soared along with the temperatures and a return in the high nineties was the order of the day. As per usual, the classic was organized to the highest level by the organizing committee  - James Friel, Paul Carr, Peter Currsn, Siobhan Grant, Ciaran Haran, Noel McGinley, Marjorie Morrison, Dermot Higgins, Adrian Shields, Adrian McClafferty and Enda Kelly. It was great to see so many new faces involved and thanks to the committee for all their efforts

Many thanks to main sponsor Diver's Hyundai Garage for their support and also to Bank of Ireland.

Many thanks also to everyone who played on the day, to all local businesses/individuals that supported the event by sponsoring teams, Tees and Prizes and to Letterkenny Golf Club.

Winners
1st prize - Divers Hyundai Garage team - 103pts - Shane Blake, Paul McCafferty and Bryan Kelly, ably captained by Kevin McDonald. With birdies at 2nd and 4th from Bryan on front nine helping them take the turn on a massive 54pts, the dovetailed scoring from Kevin and Paul allowed the cat 1 member of the team, Shane Blake, to close the door on their nearest rivals by producing "clutch" shots on the run-in for a finishing total of 103pts.

2nd - Grant Communications team -  Ryan McGinley, Marcus McDonald, Francie Martin and the wily Geard Dunleavy. With birdies at 3rd, 12th and 16th, nines scores of 49pts and 50pts left them four points adrift of the top team

3rd - Eamon Mc Glincheys team - Eamon McGlinchey, Pauric Dunleavy, William White and the irrepressible Tony Duffy, beaten by virtue of B.O.T.
Also with birdies at 2nd, 3rd, 5th,15th and 18th, the countback on inward nine of 48pts just wasn't enough following their outward nine of 51pts.

4th - Liam Sweeney and Kieran Sweeney ably assisted by Joe Terry and Jim Gleeson on 98pts. The unfortunate omission of birdies on their card left them just outside the main prizewinners' circle.

Longest drive (kick out!!) - JP Clarke
Ladies longest drive - Norma Mullodly
Nearest the pin - Ryan McKinnley

Highlights of the day included Andy McGlynn managing to get around the course with the same ball from start to finish, Rory Kavanagh parting with a fiver of his own money to buy tickets for the draw and Adrian McClafferty creating his own bunkers on several holes !!!!
