Between football and hurling, a total of 23 league matches took place at venues around the country this afternoon.
In Division One of the national football league, there were repeats of last summer's Ulster and Munster finals (Donegal V Monaghan and Cork V Kerry), while Derry hosted Mayo at Celtic Park.
In the top flight of the national hurling league, Galway entertained double holders Kilkenny in Salthill, while Clare welcomed Munster rivals Tipperary to Ennis. There was also a crunch clash between promotion-chasing Wexford and Limerick in Division 1B.
Throw in a slew of matches from all the other divisions in both codes and you just knew it was going to be a busy afternoon.
