Retirement never crossed McGee's mind

Neil McGee has scoffed at suggestions that he contemplated quitting the inter-county scene after Donegal's All-Ireland final defeat to Kerry.

Speaking to the Donegal Democrat, the brilliant full back explained: "It was always in my mind to come back. I know a couple of boys were thinking about it alright but for me that was never the case as far as I was concerned. I was always going to play again in 2015.

"After the club championship I went to Australia with Ireland and I was in America with the All-Stars which were nice wee breaks.

"But as soon as I returned home I got back into the gym to keep me ticking over until we started back training properly the week before last."

The Gweedore man is hoping to be back in the Donegal colours for the start of the Allianz League.

"The break also gave a foot injury that was bothering me last year a chance to clear up too and thankfully it has and I'm hoping to be back for the start of the league but that is up to the doctors and the physios. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed," he added.

"I'm only back training two weeks with the rest of the squad and I have a little more work to do before I'm fit to play again."
