Gallagher could be installed tonight

Speculation is rife that the new Donegal football manager will be appointed tonight.

It comes after the county board decided to bring forward their monthly meeting by three days. The November meeting was scheduled to take place next Monday night, but it now looks as though Jim McGuinness' successor will be ratified tonight instead.

Former assistant manager Rory Gallagher remains firm favourite to land the senior post. The Fermanagh native was McGuinness' right-hand man when Donegal won the All-Ireland in 2012, but was cut adrift at the end of last season. This year, he was in charge of club side Kilcar.

The other three candidates in the race are Cathal Corey, Paddy Carr and Anthony Harkin.

The meeting is also expected to appoint managers for the U21 and minor football teams and to discuss the ongoing uncertainty over whether Sunday's Donegal SFC final between Glenswilly and St. Eunan's will be going ahead. It is believed Naomh Conaill, whose objection to the result of their semi-final against Glenswilly last Sunday was rejected by the Donegal CCC, are considering taking their case to the Ulster Council Hearings Committee.
