Corey joins Donegal race

October 17, 2014

Moments like this are what the GAA is all about, as manager, Cathal Corey (third from left) and players, Dara Gallagher, Leo McLoone, team captain Anthony Thompson, and Dermot Brick Molloy, call in with the cup to John The Twin Sweeney, at his home on Main Street.

Cathal Corey has been nominated for the vacant Donegal football manager's post ahead of today's deadline.

The Irish Daily star is reporting that Corey has been nominated by Jim McGuinness' home club Naomh Conaill, Glenties. The Kildress, Co. Tyrone native and McGuinness were joint-managers of Naomh Conaill in 2009 when they lost the Donegal SFC final.

However, with Corey in sole charge the following year, Glenties landed the Dr Maguire Cup before going on to reach the Ulster club final. A nephew of current Derry manager and former Donegal boss Brian McIver, Corey joins Paddy Carr and Rory Gallagher in the running to succeed McGuinness.

The deadline for nominations is 5pm today.
