Jim McGuinness' former assistant Rory Gallagher has been installed as 13/8 favourite to replace the Glenties man.
The ex-Fermanagh star was McGuinness' right-hand man when duo delivered Donegal's second All-Ireland triumph two years ago.
Declan Bonnar, who guided the minors to this year's All-Ireland decider, and Martin McHugh are also being strongly linked to the vacancy at this early stage.
The Donegal County Board will commence the process of finding a replacement for McGuinness at Monday night's County Board meeting.
