Financial woe for Donegal

September 12, 2014

It's all about the money

The €18,000 stolen from the Donegal County Board through an elaborate internet scam last year cannot be retrieved.

Following the failure of the Gardai and British Police to recover the money which was believed to be transferred to a bank account in the U.K. the county board made a complaint to the Financial Services Ombudsman's Bureau.

The FSOB launched an investigation into the scam, but their findings were not good news for Donegal as they were told it was irretrievable.

"The FSOB was satisfied that our bank had properly investigated the matter and attempted to retrieve the funds, which unfortunately were irretrievable," Dunnion told the Donegal Democrat.

"As a result the FSOB were satisfied that our complaint couldn't be reasonably up held."
