Jamie Toner Memorial Tournament

April 16, 2014

At the presentation of the Jamie Toner Memorial Cup.
We would like to say a huge thanks to all who made the inaugural U12 Boys, Jamie Toner Memorial Tournament such a huge success on Saturday last. The very kind and sincere compliments received from the visiting teams is a reflection on ALL who participated in any way. To James Cassidy and Paddy Gallagher whose idea it was to host this event and who not only proposed this but then made sure no detail was over looked from a players and supporters point of view. Thanks to PJ and Chris who had the pitch and dressing rooms in perfect condition as usual. Thanks to Johnny McCafferty in the Lagoon for providing "the best soup ever" if our guests are to be believed.

The soup was very very gladly received by all in attendance in what was a very cold day at the Burn Road. Thanks to the parents for providing the scones, sandwiches etc and to the hard working ladies who manned the kitchen from early till late to ensure players and supporters were all fed. Thanks to Eugene and Deirdre Trearty for taking care of the first aid issues that arose during the course of the games. Our 4 young referees, Daire McDaid, Darragh Gallen, Shay McElwaine and Conor Murray, did a fantastic job, and really did themselves proud in how they kept the games flowing without incident and thanks to James and Benny Trearty for making themselves available to oversee this. Thanks to photographers for Patrick Murray and Gerard Grant for being present on the day to take some wonderful pictures.

We are deeply indebted to Jimmy, Roisin and Lynn Toner and to the extended Toner family for their day long attendance, for presenting the trophies and for their generous gifts which they supplied and presented to all the boys that played during the course of the day, and which were much appreciated and totally unexpected. Finally thanks to the players and officials from St Eunans, Steelstown in Derry and St Marys in Sligo for the sporting nature in which all the games were played, it really was a pleasure for our young players and supporters alike to witness teams with values similar to our own in terms of on and off field behaviour of players and mentors and supporters. Thank you one and all.
