McBrearty no show quizzed by delegate

Paddy McBrearty refused to attend the hearing into an alleged biting incident against the wishes of the Donegal County Board.

Donegal officials provided photographs and medical reports in an attempt to prove that the 19 year old had been bitten by a Dublin opponent during the counties FL Division 1 encounter but the player himself didn't co-operate with the hearing.

Dublin's Kevin O'Brien was initially hit with a proposed three-match ban but was subsequently exonerated by the CHC.

The matter was raised at the May meeting of the County Board last night and chairman Sean Dunnion, quoted in today's Irish Examiner, replied: "We did everything possible," when asked by a delegate why the player had not attended the hearing.

"We replied to all correspondence and were represented by (county secretary) Aodh Martin O Fearraigh and (team doctor) Charlie McManus.

"I must add that the action was taken against the advice of the county's officials."

Last week GAA President Liam O'Neill said: "People who had evidence didn't show and that's it. There's nothing we can do about it.

"It works when people co-operate with it and tell what happened - that didn't happen in this case. We were left with flimsy evidence and depending on direct evidence, which didn't show. That was it."
