Seniors
The seniors unfortunately suffered their first defeat of the season away to Convoy in the league on Sunday, this was a very tight and tense affair with the men only losing by 1:11 to 0:12 with Convoys first half goal being the key score in the game. The boys will hope to bounce back this weekend when they take on Downings away in the league.
Reserve's
The reserves fought back from being five points down against Convoy to grind out a vital 0:15 to 1:11 victory with the boys kicking the winning point in injury time to keep their impressive winning streak going. They take on MacCumhaills 3rd team in the league this weekend.
U16 Boys
Congratulations to the U16 Boys who defeated Glenfin by 3:12 to 3:05 last week in the Division 2 Northern Board league final picking up the first silverware of the year. The boy's showed great composure and belief to settle in to the game after Glenfin scored 3 goals from their first three attacks leaving the score 3:0 to 0:1 to Glenfin after 10mins. It would have been easy for the boy's heads to drop but they put the shoulder to the wheel and kept taking their points before Caolan McClintock passed the ball through several bodies into the corner of the Glenfin net leaving the score 3:2 to 1:05 to Glenfin at halftime. Glenfin started the second half the stronger again kicking the first 2 points moving the gap out to four points but again the boy's settled down and worked three very good points with the turning point coming around the 45th minute when Caolan McClintock played a quick 30m free over the top of the Glenfin defence to an onrushing Ryan Coyle who slotted the ball in the bottom corner to put Red Hughs in front for the first time. After that it was all Red Hughs with Glenfin only able to add one more point with both Red Hughs defence and attack controlling possession and James Doherty settled the game in the final minutes with a brilliant solo goal on the break which topped off a brilliant team performance. It was brilliant to see the boy's play as unit and not panic to work their way back into the game with several players putting their body on the line with blocks and turnovers to keep Glenfin pinned in the second half. The boy's now go into the All County Division 2 League semi-final and they also have the All County Division 2 Championship semi-final to look forward to and hopefully this victory will give them the confidence to push on in both competitions.
