Murphy rubbishes McEntee claims

Donegal's Michael Murphy with Meath's Bryan Menton

Michael Murphy says Meath manager Andy McEntee’s suggestion that he influences referees is “rubbish”.

McEntee suggested that Man of the Match Murphy was lucky to stay on the pitch during Donegal’s dramatic comeback victory over the Royals in the Division Two league final at Croke Park.

The allegation was put to Murphy at today’s launch of the 2019 Kellogg’s Cul Camps and he was almost lost for words:

“What do you say to it? It wouldn't be a bad thing to have, even though it's rubbish,” the 2012 All-Ireland winning captain is quoted on rte.ie.

“There's sometimes and some instances where you commit a foul and you get a yellow card but I'm in no place to influence anything. I go out and play the game as best I can as an individual.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever been asked about it in an interview or anything like that. It’s a difficult one to answer. It’s the first time it’s come up.”
