A massive thank you from Bord na nÓg to everyone who attended the presentation night yesterday (Sunday 25th). Thanks to all parents and families for attending, and to those who brought and looked after the refreshments on the evening. Thanks also to the managers for their commitment through the year. A huge thank you to our County Star, Leo Mc Loone, who very kindly attended our presentation and shared some words of wisdom with our up and coming players. Lastly, thank you to the staff in Rosnakill Hall for facilitating our presentation evening. Well done to all our young players. See you all again next year!

Memorial Tournament

The club are putting plans in place to run a memorial tournament on Sunday 30th December in Portsalon with all proceeds on the day going to local charitable causes.  The tournament itself will be in memory of those who have passed away in years gone by and had close links with Gaeil Fhánada. The provisional plans are for a four team men’s tournament where Fanad North, Fanad South, Fanad East and Fanad West will lock horns while in the ladies section, Fanad North will take on Fanad South. Panels have been identified for each area and confirmation has been received from most. We will be officially releasing details on the tournament next week which will give further information about the day. There has been a very strong interest so far with each area having a panel of roughly 25 players each.

We will have a cup and shield to be presented in the men's section along with a player of the tournament while the ladies will be fighting it out in the cup final with a player of the game trophy to be awarded too. Awards will be presented at the dinner dance that evening. If anyone is interested in helping out on the day, please contact Michael @ 086 3645913.

All proceeds on the day will be donated equally among three charitable causes: Bridget McGinley fund, Paddy 'Fenny' McBride fun and Pieta House.

Gaeil Fhánada Le Chéile - An Appreciation.

Just over 18 months ago, we came up with an innovative idea that would reconnect ex players, members and supporters of Gaeil Fhánada with the club again. We predicted a modest interest in our maiden year, and how wrong we were. Year one yielded 28 participants. Their contributions steadied the ship at a testing time within the club where we are going through some huge developments. The program was also worthwhile and well received by the participants. In year two, we aimed for 35 participants and reduced the cost of entry. We were blown away when 55 of our exiles signed up to the program.

The background to the program was to reconnect our exiles with the club while ensuring the entrants got plenty of incentives such as club gear, membership and entry into exclusive cash draws, among other things. It makes us immensely proud and honoured to know we have 55 ambassadors around the world who are able to contribute to the growth and development of Gaeil Fhánada. These ambassadors represent the club which again makes us very proud. The exiles probably don't realize the impact they are making with their efforts, but we hope in some way they feel a sense of pride when they see the developments going on at the club knowing they played a part in this. Such is the success of the program, other clubs in Donegal are taking notice. We are the first club (that we know of!) to run such a program.

Thanks to everyone involved. Your exclusive club gear will be released in time for Christmas while our first two cash draws will take place in early January. Go raibh maith agaibh!

Child Ethics Course

There are a few spaces available on our Child Ethics course which takes place on Thursday November 29th.  Time and venue to be confirmed.  Please contact Fiona Shiels on 085 155 5645 if interested. Anyone who coaches children at our club is required to undertake this course.  Places will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Club Shop

We are currently in the process of setting up an online Club Shop, in association with O’Neills, and we hope to be live in the next week. You will be able to order various items of club gear including jerseys, tops, tracksuits, hats and more. Make sure you’ve got Gaeil Fhánada gear on your Christmas list! Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Twitter feed for the latest on this.

Annual General Meeting

Due to a number of our members wishing to attend the Ulster Club Final in Omagh, the Gaeil Fhánada AGM has been put back an hour to 6 p.m. and will take place in the Resource Centre, Rossnakill. We hope to see as many members as possible in attendance. Adult members registered prior to April 1st 2018 are entitled to vote. Non members and supporters are welcome to attend but will not have a vote.

National Draw & Club Newsletter

The National Draw has always been a great success for us and it's that time of the year again. Members of the club will be going door to door over the coming days to every household in Fanad. 100% of the funds raised go directly to the club and in recent years has helped us cover the costly expenses of player insurance and levies among other things. If we happen to miss you, please let us know and we can call back and get you sorted with a ticket. As always, we appreciate the support and hope that the ticket buyers understand the big impact their small gesture makes to the club. We will also be delivering a 2018 newsletter to each household which highlights the 2018 year for Gaeil Fhánada and shows milestones, achievements along with what we have in store for 2019.

Club Dinner Dance

Our club Dinner Dance will take place in The Silver Tassie Hotel on Sunday December 30th. Music on the night by the Cavanagh Brothers.

Tickets, priced at €30, go on sale this weekend. What better way to celebrate our fantastic year!

Table Quiz

The Ladies Board will hold a table quiz in the Atlantic House on Friday December 7th. There will be a draw for two dinner dance tickets on the night.
