With Downings withdrawing earlier from the championship, the reserves progressed to the quarter-finals top of their group. Well done to bother senior and reserve teams and management on making the last eight of their respective competitions.
The intermediate quarter-finals drawn on Sunday evening see a round robin rematch for Aodh Ruadh, as they face a Gaeil Fhánada side they defeated 5-12 to 0-7 during the group stages. As with the senior game, we await confirmation of fixture details so keep an eye on the Aodh Ruadh CLG Facebook page for these. As ever, we would urge a big showing of Ballyshannon support to travel and get behind both teams.

It is a quiet week for the under 13s. The team are due to play Saint Naul's in a challenge match on Tuesday in Mountcharles ahead of their league game next weekend away to Convoy. We still await final confirmation of fixture details for that match.
The ladies committee will be inviting potential managers to put their names forward in October to take on teams for the 2019 season. In doing so we hope to ensure managers and mentors will have the necessary qualifications and courses completed before they commence training next year. Management and mentoring is a exciting and rewarding way to get involved in the community so if that appeals to you, why not give it some thought over the next few weeks?
Hurling
Last Thursday our under 16s made the long trip to Burt to take on the home side in the A championship semi-final. We expected a tough game and that's exactly what we got. It was a very physical encounter with every score being hard-earned. We led by two points going into three minutes of injury time. There was a large and vocal home crowd driving on the home team. Our lads showed great composure defending a long range free and a 65 in the last couple of minutes as the Burt men were desperately chasing a match winning goal. Great credit to our young side who held on for a fully deserved victory on a 4-8 to 3-9 scoreline. As everyone knows championship victories in Burt are hard-earned, and Thursday was no different. The lads have worked hard this season and they have their reward now as they have reached the A Championship Final where they will be up against a strong Setanta team who will be attempting to complete a league and championship double. The final is this Thursday, time and venue to be confirmed.
Last Sunday we held our annual Aodh Ó Dálaigh under 12 tournament. Six teams took part on the day Ballycastle (Antrim), Keady (Armagh), Abbeyknockmoy (Galway), Claremorris (Mayo), Saint Eunan's and ourselves. The tournament was played in a round robin format and after five rounds of action the pairings for the two finals were confirmed. Ballycastle and Claremorris met in the Aodh Ó Dálaigh Final while Abbeyknockmoy and Saint Eunan's contested the Primary League Final. They were two keenly contested finals with some great displays of all that's good in hurling; Passion, commitment and bravery. The titles went to the Antrim and Galway lads. As usual our mothers put on a great display of food for all teams and supporters in the Rock Hall. Aodh Ruadh Juvenile Hurling Chairman John Rooney welcomed all to the tournament and thanked the Daly family for their support of the tournament. He thanked the Park Committee for having the pitches in great shape, the referee's Sylvie Maguire, Chris Kelly and Aidan Ferguson. He also thanked all the under 16s who helped out officiating as lines men and umpires on the day. He thanked John Keon for use of the Rock Hall. Breege Scott assisted by her nephews Ben and Joey Daly presented the shields and medals to the victorious teams, bringing the curtain down on a great day of hurling.
This Sunday we host the Alan Ryan / Seamus Grimes under 16 tournament. In existence since 1998 this event remembers the contribution both lads and their families made to hurling in Aodh Ruadh. Teams confirmed for the tournament are Ballycastle and Loch Mór Gal Dais (Antrim), Keady (Armagh), Easkey (Sligo) Tooreen (Mayo) and Aodh Ruadh. The action gets underway at 10.30 am.
Training for under 8s and under 10s had now finished for the year, Thanks to all the children and their parents for their efforts and support throughout the season.
