Aodh Ruadh club notes

May 15, 2018

Football

Aodh Ruadh return to league action this Sunday they have a critical game away to Dungloe. Seniors throw-in at 3pm preceded by the reserves at 1.30pm.

Hard luck to Shane Gillespie, Eoin Doherty and Senan Rooney and the Donegal minors on the team's narrow defeat to Monaghan.

The under 16s came up just short against Naomh Columba in their second game in Division 1B section one of the county championship, 2-7 to 3-8 the final scoreline. The Ernesiders started brightly with Danny Breen lashing home a cracker of a goal after collecting a great ball in from Cian Rooney. After that exchanges evened out and the sides went in deadlocked at 2-4 apiece. Aodh Ruadh found the going harder in the second half and missed a number of opportunities, while Naomh Columba were just that bit more economical. Best for Ballyshannon were Kyle Murray at full back and Eugene Doherty in the middle third. Cian Rooney worked well around midfield too, while Calum Doherty Craig was impressive at corner back. Their final game of the group stages is a big match against Convoy down at St Mary's Park on Tuesday at 7.45pm. This is a big game for the team so a big showing of support would be appreciated.

Realt Ruadh drew with Killybegs in their last league outing.

The under 16s had a break in the league last week and so had a challenge against Bundoran. It was a good run out with Lauren McHugh, Grainne Maguire, Roisin Daly, Orla Keon and Laoise Kelly all putting in good performances. The girls next outing is a crucial away game to Saint Naul's this Tuesday. Throw in is at 6.30pm in Mountcharles, players to be down there for 5.40pm. A good showing of Ballyshannon support would be great.

The under 14 girls have training this Thursday from 4.15pm to 5.30pm. The under 14s had a useful challenge against their county counterparts on Saturday afternoon. Annie Keon, Aoibhinn McGarrigle and Ciara Caldwell were among the star performers for Aodh Ruadh with Katie O'Brien, Megan Kane and Ciara Gillespie kicking some good scores.

Under 12 training continues on Wednesday at 5.30pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Well done to the under 16 county ladies, in particular our own Caoimhe Keon and Caitlin McGarrigle and team mentor Barry Ward on their convincing 4-10 to 0-5 win in last Saturday's Ulster final over Cavan. This is Donegal's first win at this grade in nine years and we are all very proud of the girls and Barry.

Congratulations also to the under 15 county ladies who defeated Armagh 4-11 to 4-9 on Saturday, especially to Aodh Ruadh stars Sarah Jane Keon and Eilish Gallagher. That is five wins from five for the team, a trend they will hope to continue next week when they host Tyrone. They will contest the Ulster final on May 27th.
