Watch: High praise for Gweedore captain's Irish speech

February 22, 2018

Gweedore captain Niall Friel's speech came in for praise from the likes of Tomas O Se and Sean Kelly

There has been a hugely positive reaction to a winning speech in County Antrim by Gweedore captain Niall Friel after the Bank of Ireland Ulster Under-21 Club Tournament final.

The speech, almost entirely in Irish, was a delight to behold, especially in the current political climate, and its appearance on the internet has been greeted with praise - there have been more than 10,000 views on Facebook and Twitter, plus hundreds of comments and likes from Tomas O Se, former GAA President Sean Kelly and others.

Gweedore beat Lavey by 4-7 to 0-6 with a scintillating display to become the first Ulster champions from the club and the first winners of the Tournament, hosted annually by Kickhams Creggan, from Donegal.
