St. Pat's Maghera MacRory Cup

(Oldest Posts First)

Interesting to see the Ulster Colleges site is reporting St. Pat's are tipped to put out the holders this weekend.

Good luck but don't listen to any hype!

St pats play in the MacRory final on Monday in Armagh against St Pauls Bressbrook. I have been to a number of games and both teams play good football. St Pats have improved in every game since they defeated the holders St Micheal's Enniskillen in the quater. Hopefully they can cross the line the year.

A famous 13th title for St Pats. The college has now produced it first father/son winners in the Glass', Mc Graths and Cassidys. Glass senior was goalkeeper in 1980, his son a half back. McGrath sen was full back in '82', his son is on the panel, Cassidy sen was full forward in 83 & 84, corner forward in 82, his son midfield. This is what defines tradition. Excellent spirit and some good football in terrible conditions.

"Champagne football" one report said, and from guys the most of whom are probably still not allowed to drink!

Fantastic result and by all accounts a fantastic performance. Navan were certainly no mugs, but well done to St. Pat's Maghera - just sorry I couldn't get to see it - some of the scoring sounds tremendous.

Maghera are some side , to score 1-20 against a good pats of navan team is something else . must be one of the best colleges teams in a long long time and thats not trying to make navan sound good. The Glen club must have some bright future with 8 starting players coming from there.

Think you could be right there Northsidegael, even if there have been some great Hogan teams down the years from the likes of St. Jarleth's, St. Colmans and Navan itself. Of course any team that wins the Hogan must be special - it's a long old campaign from start to finish.

But the eye-watering aspect of this year is the fact that they have not lost a championship game throughout their schoolplaying careers - a fact that simply beggars belief! I hope it breeds self-belief rather than over-confidence and that a good chunk of this team can be back in Croke Park soon, only next time wearing the red and white of Derry.
