Goals in either half from Shane and Se McGuigan saw champions Slaughtneil defeat Ballinderry by 2-9 to 0-9 in front of 5,465 spectators at Owenbeg yesterday and qualify for their third Derry SFC final in-a-row.

Two years after they beat Ballinderry with a controversial last-minute goal in the county final, the Emmet's ended Martin McKinless' proud record of having never lost a championship match as Shamrocks manager.

With Karl and Chrissy McKaigue tying up Conleith Gilligan and Ryan Bell, Slaughtneil took a 1-6 to 0-5 lead into the interval. Ballinderry reduced the deficit to the minimum after the restart, but the concession of 1-2 in the space of four minutes proved their undoing as they finished the game with 14 players following a late red card for Darren Lawn.

Slaughtneil will seek to complete a third successive Derry SFC and SHC double when they face Loup - who defeated Ballinascreen by 4-9 to 0-10 in the other semi-final on Saturday - in the decider on Sunday, October 16.
