Lynch: we're trying to make ourselves more competitive

Derry captain Mark Lynch says the Oak Leafers are working on a system to be as competitive as possible.

Their counter-attacking system worked much better against Cork at the weekend than it did in Croke Park eight days earlier and Lynch points out that it's always easier to hone the system when things are going your way, as they did in 2014 when Derry reached the league final.

"We played really well and our efficiency going forward last year was outstanding," the Banagher clubman notes in The Derry Post. "We were scoring from all angles and opportunities. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.

"But if you're playing attacking football and you're not taking your scores going forward, you're on a hiding to nothing at times.

"We're trying to find a way to make ourselves more competitive. It's worked for a couple of games but we'll see how it goes now; there's a lot of work to do in it."
