Derry manager John McEvoy admits that they are in a good place squad wise.

An opening Christy Ring Cup win over Down was the perfect start for McEvoy’s charges who face Donegal this weekend.

A win for the Oakleafers would almost certainly guarantee them a place in the semi-finals which would be a huge boost for all concerned.

McEvoy feels that the players are grasping their opportunity to impress with both hands as the campaign goes on.

“At inter-county you are looking to develop a strong squad,” McEvoy told the Derry Journal. “It is inevitable at this level, with all they are playing that players are going to get injured.

“We are looking for lads to step up and take their chance when they get it. We feel now, that with lads coming back in, there is a lot of competition.

“Before Down, we went looking to pick a championship team and we have options.”
