The Ulster MFC spoils that were up for grabs today went the way of Monaghan, Derry, Donegal and Down.

Derry had four points to spare over Cavan in a 0-19 to 1-12 victory at Owenbeg.

The first-half finished with the teams level – 0-10 to 1-7 – after Jack Tully raised a green flag for the Breffni County in the 21st minute.

The home side enjoyed the better of the second-half exchanges, however, when raising nine white flags compared to their opponents’ five.

Holders Monaghan registered a 3-8 to 0-13 success over Tyrone in Carrickmore.

Kyle Connolly found the back of the Red Hand County’s net in the 6th minute and his strike was the difference between the sides at the break - 1-6 to 0-6.

Second-half goals from Darragh Dempsey and Liam McDonald helped seal the win for the reigning champions.

Elsewhere, Donegal got the better of Armagh by 2-18 to 2-12 in round 2 of the qualifiers at Ballybofey.

Two goals from second-half substitute Shane Monaghan was key to the Tir Conaill side’s win.

Mark McKeever and Rory Kearney raised green flags for the visitors who finished with 12-men.

Also in the qualifiers, Down withstood a strong second-half showing by Fermanagh to advance on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-11.

John McGovern’s eight minute goal sent the Mourne County on the road to a 1-8 to 0-3 interval advantage at Brewster Park but they were outscored by eight points to four in the second-half.
