Tomás Ó Sé will join a star-studded line-up at a gala ball in May in memory of Kevin 'Kingsy' King, the Derry GAA player who died suddenly from a genetic heart condition while playing indoor football in November 2016.

The 22-year-old from Eglinton had been in goal in the indoor game with friends in Campsie when he collapsed. He played Gaelic football with the St Mary's club in Slaughtmanus.

Following his death, Kevin's parents John and Margaret, and brother Martin, learned he had arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) – an inherited heart condition that damages the muscle of the heart and leads to sudden death.

Kevin's family now plan to raise money for research into ARVC and are hosting a 'King of the Heart Ball' in Titanic, Belfast on Saturday, May 4. Kerry legend Ó Sé will attend along with former Irish and Lions rugby star Stephen Ferris and Olympic bronze medallist boxer Paddy Barnes.

"Too many young people did suddenly because of heart conditions they didn't know they had. I'm proud to support the King family as they fundraise for research into genetic heart conditions and know the GAA will once again back this very worthy charity," Ó Sé said in the Irish News.
