Derry manager Damian McErlain heaped praise on 18-year-old Ben McCarron after he scored 3-1 on his debut against Fermanagh in the McKenna Cup yesterday.

The teenager replaced the injured Ryan Bell after six minutes and proceeded to run the Fermanagh defence ragged as the Oak Leaf County prevailed by 3-9 to 2-8 at Brewster Park. However, he's expected to play championship football for the U20s rather than the seniors this year.

"A great debut," McErlain enthused in the Irish News.

"He showed the pace and athleticism and he will be a serious asset to the U20s this year."
