A referee was allegedly assaulted following a club game in Galway yesterday.

According to local reports, Muiris Mac Gearailt was struck in the tunnel area by a spectator following Salthill-Knocknacarra's 3-13 to 1-16 Galway SFC quarter-final replay win over Milltown at Pearse Stadium.

The game went to extra-time for the second weekend in-a-row, but the Seasiders prevailed on this occasion thanks to a late Robert Walzer goal.

Meanwhile, All-Ireland club champions Corofin should be able to call on the services of county hurling full back Daithi Burke for their Galway SFC semi-final against Annaghdown next Sunday.

The dual star's hurling commitments for the year have ended following Turloughmore's 0-19 to 2-15 Galway SHC preliminary quarter-final extra-time defeat to Cappataggle yesterday, leaving him free to concentrate on the big ball code.
