Westmeath forward Ray Connellan admits that he is finding his love of football once again.

Connellan is set to return to the Westmeath senior football squad in the New Year having had two spells in Australia playing Aussies Rules football.

The Athlone clubman revealed to the Westmeath Independent that playing professional AFL was very stressful and now he wants to start enjoying his Gaelic football again.

“I’ve spoken to Jack Cooney already. I’ve kind of made if clear that I was trying to get back into enjoying my football again,” said Connellan.

“I suppose the last year and a half have been pretty serious and fairly stressful as far as Australia went. For me the most important thing is to get back in and really start enjoying my football.

“At the moment I’m focusing on the college football. Once the Sigerson Cup is over then I’ll start speaking to Jack a bit more about coming back in then for the league campaign.”
