Delegates at today’s Westmeath GAA convention in Athlone will hear that expenditure on inter-county team preparation is heading for €1 million.

Despite the senior footballers’ short-lived championship campaign this year, team expenses increased by over €70,000 to €823,000. Team administration costs came to €82,532, while back-up staff added a further €134,587 to the bill.

The rising costs have been offset by sponsorship totalling €143,680, grants from Leinster Council and Central Council totalling €442,292, games development amounting to €270,000 and increased gate receipts which came to almost €280,000.

Overall, current assets amounting to €523,002 exceed current liabilities of €273,658.
