Former Kildare star Anthony Rainbow is being strongly linked with the Roscommon senior football vacancy.

The Irish Independent reports that the former Lilywhite All-Star has emerged as a front runner to replace Kevin McStay who stepped down in early September.

The two-time Leinster SFC medalist was in charge of the Ballyboden St Enda’s team that exited the Dublin SFC at the semi-final stage at the hands of Kilmacud Crokes last Saturday evening.

His coaching curriculum vitae includes a two-year stint as Carlow senior football manager.

The Suncroft clubman was also involved with the Sarsfields team that claimed back-to-back Kildare SFC honours in 2015 and ’16.

Ex-Roscommon footballer Nigel Dineen and former Sligo and Waterford manager Niall Carew have both ruled themselves out of the race for the position in recent days.
