Lacey's U-turn won't change Rochford's position

Stephen Rochford and Karl Lacey.

Stephen Rochford's new position of Donegal head coach won't change, despite Karl Lacey's surprise return to the management set-up.

The former Mayo manager replaced Lacey in the role after the 2012 All-Ireland winning centre back stepped down last month. However, it has now emerged that Lacey will remained involved, but will work under Rochford alongside Gary Boyle.

“It is great to have Karl back," Donegal manager Declan Bonner told the Irish Daily Star.

"He made the transition last season from player to coach and did a fantastic job and played a big part in our success last season.

“Karl had a number of issues to sort out and he is newly married and had a new arrival but he is now in a position to return and we are really delighted to have him. He is a quality coach. He will now be working along with Gary Boyle under Stephen (Rochford), who is also a top class coach.

“We are delighted to have them both and it means we now have a quality coaching team and we are all really looking forward to getting back training at the beginning of next month.”
