And a ridiculous headline on the homepage. People commenting from TV pictures that don't show how the Clifford started. No "outrage" from Hoganstand on Peter Harte being targeted off the ball (again) and receiving a second yellow?

Games called off all around the country due to the storm but have a cut at a county who managed to get a game played sure!

Can the GAA survive the Rugby onslaught - 5 Like(s)
Maybe the more pertinent question (for a more suitable platform than a GAA forum) is will Irish rugby ever live up to the media hype?

Replying To traleegerry:  "Well done to the winner. Thanks be to be God micky is not one of ours. We do not send our teams out to win at all cost this is what micky does best and has been doing for many years now Joe brolly had the right words for that type of game. I want no part of that.. And micky jumping up and down on the side line as if something great had been achieved."
Struggling when quoting Brolly chief. Any thoughts on how Peter Harte got his second yellow along with a Kerry defender getting his first for a off the ball tangle? There is none so blind as those who will not see!

No player should be beyond reproach & this thuggish carryon has no place on the pitch. If you want to look at playing outside the rules, maybe also take a wee look back at the quarter finals of 2013 & 2015."

Replying To Joxer:  "Coming out of the ground there were rumours that Tyrone fans set upon a Dublin player but nothing concrete although certainly a Tyrone player started the pushing and shoving it seems. The ironic thing about all of this is that all we hear about every week is "if this was Tyrone this" and "if this was Tyrone that". It will be interesting to see what Sean and Oisin have to say on this one because, as we know, Ulster people generally circle the wagons on these matters. One thing I will say though, if 2 Dublin fans jumped out of the Hill and punched a Tyrone player the terrace would be torn down. Let's see how it plays out but I foresee a brush and a carpet."
Previous post you said something along the lines of let's not discuss what "might" of started the row in the tunnel - because you haven't a clue what started it have you? But now here you are making all sorts of allegations - throwing mud hoping it sticks, deflecting from any misdemeanours of the Dubs. You could learn from some of your fellow county contributors - both teams well able to dish it out as with all top teams

So? Criticise a county for funding a facility where ALL their counties teams can train just because in the middle of one of the worst storms of the winter you aren't happy that your team of superstars were asked to play on a surface that isn't to your pleasing? FYI plans are in place for a resurfacing and drainage works in Healy Pk for later in the year so hopefully you won't be too inconvenienced by the surface on your next visit

Can the GAA survive the Rugby onslaught - 3 Like(s)

Replying To ormondbannerman:  "There you go again with 'pro sport'. Tsk. Regardless, they all started with their club, would be fitting if they could finish with it too. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts:3234 - 18/01/2017 22:52:35 How many pros from other sports continue as an amateur when they finish playing pro? No it is nothing to do with Pro Sport. Amazing the number of GAA lads who go off to play rugby professionally then when retired go play a few years with their GAA club. In rugby the clubs mean 0 to the Pro Players as they go into 'the Academy' out of school so have little affiliation with them. witnof (Dublin) - Posts:1072 - 19/01/2017 09:54:47The clubs don't at all mean zero to pro players. All players in an academy will be playing regularly with a club while in the academy. All members of the provincial academies in recent years will have been playing AIL rugby while in the academy until they make the pro12 team. Garry Ringrose was playing with UCD before playing with Leinster in pro12, Keith Earls will have played with Thomond, Young Munster. Robbie Henshaw played with Buccaneers. etc etc Like you said the toll of playing rugby for years at a high level is a big one so even if they wanted to probably wouldn't physically be able. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts:3191 - 19/01/2017 10:25:01 Or if when finished playing professionally in mid 30s they go into coaching or media work and don't want to play how many professional soccer players or cricket players go back to their original clubs or indeed any professional team sport players Lot of them cant go back playing club rugby because either 1 they retired due to injury or wear and tear and cant no longer play and /or 2 can affect their insurance payouts and also 3 they have careers to catch up on and if they were playing with a 1a or 1b club your looking at training 4 nights a week plus game at weekend Good few of them do go back playing with their clubs e.g. fionn carr and johne murphy at naas, scott deasy and ivan dineen (ex munster) now back playing club rugby, as did mike prendergast , , marcus horan, paul neville, conan doyle, stephen keogh, tom hayes, paul neville, conan doyle and tim ryan (all ex munster), andreew dunne mark hugh - even more will go into club coaching e.g the aforementioned prendergast, jackman, horan , mark mchugh, peter coyle, mick galwey, denis leamy, david corkery, john oneill, emmett farrell eric miller james blayney brett wilkinson. ex wales coach mike ruddock is coaching at lansdowne , paul oconnell and ian keatley have done underage coaching at young munster Find it great when coaching my under 8s at blitzes to find one of the opposition coaches is an ex inter county player!. Alway great when an ex elite level player goes back coaching janesboro (Limerick) - Posts:981 - 19/01/2017 10:34:36Agree with a lot of that but what 1A sides train 4 times a week? You have to be taking gym work that players do in their own time in that rather than squad sessions if talking about 4 sessions a week. disagree -they all started their rugby with a club and will have an attachment to that club - i go to a lot of club rugby (and gaa) very common to see current pro players attending club games to support their club, (often see them at club hurling too) ciaran ruddock, and mick mcgrath are two other ex pros playing club rugby janesboro (Limerick) - Posts:981 - 19/01/2017 10:39:22 To be fair. Mick McGrath was with Leinster starting at 23 and then was released from them very recently. He is quite different to pros finishing in their early 30s after 10+ years as a pro"
Why is any of this being discussed on a GAA forum?

Charlie Redmond's Jim McGuinness comments - 3 Like(s)

Replying To catch22:  "Jim Mc Guinness done great for Donegal and that's all that will be remembered at this stage. He obviously addressed their discipline issues and organised them into a proper competitive unit that won the ultimate prize. He did however bring the defensive aspect to a new level whether it be a highpoint or a low point for the game. He's not shy about giving his opinion so others are entitled to theirs too."
Entitled to opinion yes but when it's just plain horses***? As Lockjaw said one of the first times Jim McGuinness came to the National attention as Donegal manager was over the handling of the motm award against Antrim and the slight on Ryan Bradley. To say Jim Gavin "stood up for his player in a way Jim McGuinness never did or never could do" sure just plain factually wrong. As for having no regard for what Jim McGuinness says because of the depths he brought defensive football to...... well Charlie he certainly achieved a lot more in management than you ever did!

Rory Beggan - 3 Like(s)

Replying To keithlemon:  "As clondalkin says I think Beggan will get the all star, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in this team of the year stuff on the Sunday Game, its not always reflective of who makes the All Stars. Cluxton had another consistently excellent season but Beggan made more headlines, put in some great performances as well and semi final kick aside, nothing can take away that performance against Kerry. I think he'll get the all star for that game alone. A great season for Monaghan and I expect them to get 3 All Stars of Beggan, O'Connell and McManus"
I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the All Stars either. Always political voting involved which means not all the best players get selected. We can't give that position to player X as player Y from same county has already got one, whereas county "Z" have none yet and they won a provincial championship so they need one. Like a case could be made (and is by a lot of their fans on here) that Rory Beggan, Drew Wylie, Karl O'Connell and Conor McManus deserve All-Stars. Will Monaghan get four? Beaten semi-finalists! Will they hell as like, should they be the outstanding players in that position or not two will be max allowed to a losing semi-finalist who came through the back door.

Belfast, action at last? - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Ulsterman:  "Report in the Irish News this morning that Croke Park is finally to act and rubber stamp a financial plan to rejuvenate Gaelic Games in Belfast. The GAA have finally got the message that Gaelic Games are in a dire way and that a plan is now required to deal with this. As a Belfast and Antrim man I welcome this long overdue action. My main concern now will be tbe nasty begrudgery and jealousy that will come our way from within Ulster especially from Tyrone."
Don't worry about us lad, as the pioneering Club Tyrone & Garvaghey Patrons show we have no bother raising funds and being self sufficient. As a northern nationalist / republican I'd welcome an investment into trying to create a strong GAA set up in Belfast - just hope you lot don't squander all that money, which going by the past record of your Co. Board sadly seems a strong possibility.

Replying To waynoI:  "Wins us a lot more than it loses us chief!! Dublins results since Jim Gavin took over where we scored 10 points or less in a game 2014 - Dublin 2-8 v 1-10 Kerry 2014 - Tyrone 1-15 v 3-10 Dublin 2015 - Dublin 2-10 v 0-11 Donegal 2015 - Dublin 1-09 v 0-12 Tyrone 2015 - Dublin 0-08 v 0-04 Derry 2016 - Mayo 0-07 v 0-09 Dublin 2016 - Dublin 1-10 v 0-07 Donegal 2016 - Mayo 0-15 v 2-09 Dublin 2017 - Dublin 0-10 v 1-07 Tyrone Unbeaten in 8 games against some brilliant opposition there while scoring 10 points or less in those games... Now yea, If you want to pedantic you can say we scored goals in a lot of those games... So, Take out the games where we scored goals and we won 2 of the 3, only blemish is last nights result where we missed a penalty. Worth noting by the way that Tyrone in our last 3 league meetings have kept us to 10 points or less, winning a grand total of none of those games. Also worth noting that in those years (13, 14, 15, 16) we scored lowly in certain games and still went on to lift the national league In one (Mayo 2016) we even managed to score less than 10 points against Mayo in an all Ireland semi final, not score the two goals ourselves, and still go on to win the all Ireland. So, a long winded answer to your very simple question, 10 points has proven to win this side a lot of games and titles. Get back in your box!!"
"Get back in your box" Sums up the arrogance of some of the Dublin supporters nowadays. You may hope that type of attitude doesn't creep back in among the players again a la Pillars days

Wicklow delegates comments - 2 Like(s)
Couldn't believe what I was reading, pure claptrap from start to finish. A club player is expected to do a good warm up these days never mind an intercounty team. He obviously harks back to a time when players were thrown a jersey, stubbed out their fag and let a good roar out of them about getting stuck into these bxxxxxxs before taking their positions for the throw in. As for players should be selected above others because they are playing with senior clubs! So likes of Hub Hughes, the Cavanagh brothers (who's club have moved between intermediate and senior during their spell of playing, Philip Jordan played for the same club), Declan O'Sullivan, Darren O'Sullivan, Lee Keegan?, these guys should count themselves very lucky to be playing intercounty football when there were numerous players from senior club sides who should of been selected before them, based on what club they were born into! You do wonder who selects these delegates sometimes.

What trophy is up for grabs? benched (Tyrone) - Posts:291 - 01/06/2016 13:53:19 They are international tests. Full blooded affairs. Their games are one of the few tests Ireland play that don't have a trophy up for grabs. Like games against Argentina are for the Admiral Brown Cup, games against Australia are for the Lansdowne Cup, games against Scotland are played for the Centenary Quaich A game doesn't have to be part of a competition to be very important. A full rugby international game is a test game and is just like a full cricket test game, a senior soccer international etc etc and therefore are the highest level you can reach in the sport"
Aah yeah the prestigious Admiral Brown Cup - how could I forget about that. Also the Centenary Quaich Cup - a tournament within a tournament what a quaint idea. I might recommend we in Tyrone start the same with our neighbours for when we meet in the Ulster Championship, so far this year we could of won the Sperrin Cup for victory over Derry. It would look great sitting in Garvaghey along with the McKenna & Div 2 trophies. Imagine the excitement if we could add the Slieve Beagh trophy to the collection by beating Monaghan in the Ulster final, just hope they don't forget to take the Anglo Celt home with them in all the excitement. Coming to think of it we could add Fermanagh into that competition and make it a three team tournament - or would that just be silly? Just because it is an international sometimes doesn't make it anything more than a friendly/trial match - Ireland v Belarus? The highest level you can reach in sport??"]You know the Ulster Championship is already a tournament within a tournament right?? A 'quaint' idea the GAA came up with many years ago"]Not really Bad Monkey. The Ulster Championship is a competition in it's own right, winning it does grant entry to the quarter finals of the All-Ireland series (previously to the semis) but it's still a separate competition run and organised by a separate branch of the organisation. There is a prize awarded for winning the competition not for winning individual games within the competition.
