Replying To AustinGleeson6: "I am a 47 year old man from Galway. Capaptaggle to be exact. I have been a loyal follower of all things Galway GAA my entire life.
I have the kids on the weekend of Aug 6th which absolutely put me on cloud 9 as I would love nothing more than to take my 3 young lads to see Galway v Tipp in the hurling.
I go online to purchase tickets earleir and all that I was being offered was section 336. Down in the very corner and no way I could alter the seats whatsoever. This was after waiting in a que for 10 or 15 minutes.
What is the story here ? The GAA just trying to get rid of the bad sports first ? Money Money Money.
Michael Duignan dead right." How can you claim it's all about money, money, money, when you can take your 3 lads to an all-Ireland semi-final for 5 euro each, it p*sses me off when people spout the lazy old stereotype of the GAA being all about money. The best tickets will be issued to the participating county boards so get your tickets through your Club

Derry vs Tyrone - 2 Like(s)
Tyrone were nothing more than efficent yesterday the current group of players are maturing into a solid well drilled squad. Only time and more robust challengers will let us know how high they can fly.
Derry unfortunately looked like a bunch of lads that brought pen-knives to a sword fight, they thought they knew what they were there for but it wasn't long before they realised that they just didn't have the right tools for the job.

Another Spectacular GAA PR Own Goal - 2 Like(s)
Regardless as to whether the act of allowing a charity soccer match to take place on your back pitch is a breach of the rules or not the enforcement of the rule and the heavy handed penalty is morally wrong and petty.
The club footballers in Donegal can make this right though, every club involved in the same competitions as Naomh Colmcille can simply refuse to field in any matches for the duration of the ban. If this action were taken by the ordinary club footballers in Donegal then I'd confidently predict the ban won't last longer than a week

I was reading this article yesterday on how many in deprived areas in Dublin's North side and elsewhere are being disenfranchised by the GAA and thought it was worthy on discussion. Thoughts???" I brought 40 U-16s and 4 adult coaches to the sold out Tyrone v Dublin semi final for a total ticket cost of 120 euros. In the area I was in I seen at least half a dozen similar club groups not exactly the actions of a money grabbing association.
GAA hasn't lost it's soul just folks love an oul whinge

Replying To waynoI: "What do we think of Armagh coming out whinging to the sunday game ?" Cringeworthy!
Armagh's response should have come on the field in their next game and in any subsequent game they have this summer.
Brolly's comments were too personnal but the County Chairman getting his 5 mins of fame on national TV came across as a scene worthy of an episode of Father Ted

Replying To IrishGael3: "Yeah watched it last night and agree with you. Also can someone please confirm the Rossie Tyrone result? Based on the coverage it looked like a cakewalk to Rossies?" Tyrone don't play ball with RTE so RTE don't play ball with Tyrone, laughable at this stage.
It did genuinely from the coverage look like Tyrone lost by 4 or 5 points

Down U20 Hurlers - 1 Like(s)
Replying To In_da_ditch: "I think this message is as bad as what was allowed to happen last night. It should be a privilege & an honour to play for the county, I know it certainly used to be. If as you suggest the management decided to lose the game then I really fear for the years ahead. County careers are not long enough to start deciding to lose games. Preparation for U21B you say. How will we entice lads to come in and do it right when we already have started the process by not training, not getting a panel out and getting hammered. It is hardly screaming come be a part of this." You may need to wind your neck in a wee bit here cub, I didn't say it shouldn't be considered to be either a privilege or an honour to play for your county and I know that last night 1 player drove from Cork and back to play in that game as he sees it as both a privilege and an honour.
I was merely pointing out that like it or not playing in a Leinster A Championship is not a level that Down Hurling is competitive at present (in any age group) and the game perversely or otherwise seemed to be something that the players had to go through in order to get on with the B grade competition in the summer which I feel they will be competitive in.
So by all means vent your anger as to how hurling is being run in your county onto those who are responsible for making those decisions but don't be diverting that anger onto me just because I was merely stating the obvious

Down - Club Underage Hurling (U14, U16) - 1 Like(s)
Replying To PaudieSull1: "Craobh Rua are based in Camlough/Newry and are effectively an Armagh club playing in Down league to try get more games.
Think only games played yesterday were those on 3G surfaces.....as expected Ballygalget and Bredagh look to be the strongest at this age group as they were at u14 two years ago......not sure we should really be discussing scores etc for u16 age groups though on a public forum." I don't see a problem with these scores being put up, they are on the county website anyway.
But as I've said in similar threads in the past season or two I don't think posters should be naming individual underage players and commenting of them in a positive or negative fashion. If I'm accused of being "all PC" for holding this opinion then that will be a first for me

ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE 2B - 2017 FIXTURES - 1 Like(s)
Replying To john101: "The Ards are delusional about their own self worth! There are some brilliant hurlers there but they do not own Down hurling! The majority of the talent coming through in recent years and making it on to the starting 15 at county minor were/are from non Ards teams! A fact! The Down minor squads would've been much the poorer and less effective without them!" John, you make 1 good point there and that is the spread of representation from 6 or 8 clubs on the last few Down Minor team. Unfortunately though the lads from non-ards clubs have no outlet to continue the same rate of development in the 3 or 4 years after County Minor because their Clubs aren't playing at a senior grade, Antrim Div 3 at best.
The key to effective Ards / Non-Ards integration in the County Senior Panel is finding a vehicle that facilitates the development of these young Non-Ards players for the 3 or 4 years following minor, as this is the period when the best of your minor crop would be looking to develop into seniors.
I don't pretend to have the answer but I thought the U-21 Championship last year which contained the 3 Ards teams and 3 non-Ards amalgamations worked really well and could be a blueprint for a more expansive County Senior Championship which would obviously allow a greater number of players exposure to this grade of hurling.
However any attempt to change things within the county will always be met with people who just don't want to change, be it the idea above or any other idea. I'll just add that I have no axe to grind on this issue, my cub plays with an Ards club but my club is not in the Ards

Replying To s goldrick: "Tyrone will be happy with that draw. They always beat us. To be honest I can't see any other outcome either. It's a pity as it would have been nice to have a crack at the super 8s. The experience would have done our lads the world of good. Anyway good luck to Tyrone, you should definitely make the semi-final. Maybe another crack at Donegal. That should be tasty." Cute Hoorism of the finest order and there's me thinking that was confined to our friends in Kerry

Down Minor Hurling Championship 2017 - 1 Like(s)
Replying To Seannie Og: "I can see the headlines in Gaelic Life - "Mickey Mouse Competition Treated Like Mickey Mouse Competition".
Hardly a surprise." Seannie, I don't think Micky Mouse would have lasted too long in the game on Saturday in Armagh some fierce hits going in early on as the Down lads looked to stamp their authority on the game.
Yourself and Bricktop sound like lads that would be happy to whinge if the minors were getting tanked by McCarthy counties just as you whinge now when the minors are comprehensively beating counties that you perceive to be historically inferior to Down.
While you's whinge, the players are simply playing the opponent that the draw puts in front of them and if they win on Saturday (no easy task mind) they won't mind a jot if it's Micky Mouse, Donald Duck or Basil Bloody Brush that presents the trophy as they will have won the Minor equivalent to the Christy Ring which not too many of you were whinging about when the Seniors lifted it a few years back.

BALLYCRAN vs BALLYGALGET
LIATROIM vs WARRENPOINT
PORTAFERRY vs BREDAGH
Decent looking game between the 2 Ards teams tonight and I will put my head on the block on take the Crans to win on home turf!
Liatroim should have too much for Warrenpoint.
The Ports, with home advantage, should see off Bredagh who just cant seem to make the transition from under-age (14,16) success to minor level.
Like Downredhand previously stated, it's hard to know at this early stage who the strongest teams are.
How many of the successful Galget minors from last year are still minors for this campaign?" The Galgets only lose about 5 players from last year but I wouldn't expect them to be cooking on gas just yet
