Offaly manager John Maughan has confirmed that Niall McNamee will return to the squad in the New Year.

The Rhode forward came out of retirement in 2019 to line out for his county again and he is set to remain in the squad for next year.

McNamee is currently sidelined with a head injury sustained during the county SFC semi-final win over Clara.

However, Maughan explained to the Midland Tribune that the experienced sharpshooter is hoping to make a return.

“Niall McNamee obviously hasn’t come back but he will be back,” stated Maughan. “We keep in touch with Niall and it is very unfortunate.

“Nobody likes to see anything happen to a player, but he is concerned and he has been getting test and scans. We wish him nothing but the best, we would love to have him back.”
