Walsh calls it a day

Veteran Kerry forward Donnchadh Walsh has brought the curtain down on his illustrious inter-county career.
The 34-year-old's retirement comes just a week after that of fellow Kingdom attacker Kieran Donaghy. Renowned as a hard-working and creative footballer, the Cromane clubman was handed his debut by Paidí Ó Sé in 2003 and went on to win three All-Ireland SFC medals, eight Munster SFC medals and two Allianz Leagues. He also won an All Star in 2015 and represented Ireland in the International Rules series in the same year.
In a statement confirming his retirement this morning, Walsh said: "The greatest honour I ever could've imagined has been pulling on the green and gold jersey but, as with all good things, it must come to an end. That end has arrived.
"I am retiring from Kerry inter-county football with a lifetime of memories. I first played for Kerry as a minor two days after my 17th birthday back in 2001, and apart from a brief period where I had to knuckle down in my early 20s, I have been on the juggernaut that is the life of a Kerry footballer ever since.
"I cherished every second because it's all I ever wanted to do. But now, it's time for me to step aside."
